Walls

The endearing decisiveness of a woman,
the enduring patience of a man...

So, here's a couple questions:

According to laws of nature, how many times can a woman repaint the same room in varying shades of sage green or ask her husband to rebuild the same soffit in slightly different measurements before she's committed to a more "structured and safe environment?"

It's hard to visualize such an emormous project. It's also hard to communicate exactly what ideas are going on inside one's head. So, yes, we've had a few dis-cuss-ions along the way (emphasis on the cuss). But overall the project is moving forward and we're quite pleased with the results.

Drywall

We've done a lot of drywalling in our old house. We're by no means professional but if we've learned one thing, it's that ceilings are no fun (especially if you're the one holding the drywall!) Work smarter, not harder—rent a lift!

We rented an 11' ft. lift from Ace Hardware. At most, it costed $40/day and we finished in one day. Why would we NOT rent a lift?!

Second thing we've learned: Always enlist help from the kids. For what other reason did we have them?

This is the first time we've used a spray texture. Let's just say it takes practice and some tweeking to get the right touch. We wanted a bit of surface to mimic plaster but not quite the popcorn look of the 60's and 70's!

Best advice, besides practice? Plastic! Cover everything and everyone you don't want smothered in texture or dust!

The first of several shades of green...

I'm not sure...this could be Dutch Boy Breakers or Kelsey Island Green. Then again, maybe it's Cactus Garden?

As a graphic designer, I'm supposed to know all about color. Somehow, however, color on the wall seems much different than color on paper.

"Honey,
I've been thinking..."

Inevitably, these four words coming from a wife mean change—like maybe a change in soffit structure after it's already been constructed, drywalled and painted.

It's a woman's prerogative to change her mind, yes?
